The REALTORS® Community Foundation unites REALTORS® with our communities to help fund and support local charities that address homelessness, shelter, hunger, crime prevention and other needs in Edmonton and area because WE CARE about our neighbours and our profession.
Did you know that on average there are 2740 homeless Edmontonians, and that half of those counted live either on the street or at a shelter?
According to the Edmonton Food Bank, each month more than 13,000 people receive hampers from the food bank or from one of over 210 agencies, churches or food depots. The Food Bank also distributes more than 350,000 meals and snack programs each month with approximately 40% of those clients served being children under 18.
Youth Empowerment Services Society (YESS) provides support to youth who have found most other doors closed to them. What are these youth to do for food, money and shelter? Do they turn to crime? Or do they become addicted because they think it's the only way to cope with the hopelessness?
- Mental Health is a hot topic today – so many problems stem from mental health issues. Seniors organizations – the people who helped shape our great city and province have earned our help!
- Literacy Programs – if you can’t read, how do you get a job?
- Service Dogs – making it possible for people with disabilities to live a normal life.
- Hospice Society – to have, care and support at end of life.
